The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that they will begin paving operations on southbound I-5 between Halsey and the Linn/Lane County line starting next week. This project aims to enhance road conditions and ensure a smoother driving experience.
What to Expect:
- Work Schedule: Nighttime construction is planned from Sunday through Thursday, between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Some daytime work may also occur as necessary.
- Lane Closures: Single-lane closures will be in effect from 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM.
- Speed Limit: A reduced speed limit of 55 mph will be enforced within the work zone.
- Lane Changes: Lane changes are prohibited in areas marked with double white lines.
- Additional Impacts: Expect construction noise, potential delays, and occasional Saturday night bridge work.
Special Advisory for Motorcyclists:
Motorcyclists should exercise extra caution due to a temporary two-inch vertical edge between lanes in the construction zone. This abrupt edge can be challenging to navigate safely. To mitigate risks, avoid lane changes where double white lines are present and reduce speed when approaching the affected areas.
Project Background:
This paving initiative is part of a broader project that began last year. Work on the northbound lanes has been completed, including the installation of rumble strips, reflective markers, guardrails, and new permanent striping. The focus now shifts to improving the southbound lanes.
Safety Reminders:
- Work Zone Awareness: Always stay alert in construction zones. Slow down, adhere to posted signs, and be mindful of workers on site.
- Fines: Remember, fines double in all Oregon work zones, regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
