The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that I-5 construction has started south of Eugene this week. Work is being done in both the north and southbound lanes.
Project preparation has begun with work nightly, Sunday through Thursday between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
The road in the project area is a mix of asphalt and concrete, repairs to the concrete sections will be done first.
Speed is reduced to 55 m.p.h. in the work zone.
I-5 travelers should expect shoulder and lane closures, and delays up to 20 minutes. Additionally there will be ramp closures and detours.
About this I-80 Construction Project
The Oregon DOT is making repairs to the road to extend the life of the pavement and make it safer for drivers.
This section of roadway shows signs of wear, cracking and potholes. Worn roads are less safe for drivers and leads to increased gas and maintenance cost for drivers. Maintenance repairs will be done before extensive work is required. Work includes: patching failures in the existing concrete pavement, resurfacing asphalt to repair cracking, rutting, and wear, repair northbound and southbound lanes. Many ramps in the area will be repaved.
