The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) reports that construction on I-5 has been rescheduled due to inclement weather and schedule conflicts. The southbound I-5 nightly full closures began last night, Sunday, October 25, at 9:00 p.m. with signed detours. The County Road 22 detour is for local traffic only.
Two directions will not close on I-5 at the same time. Commercial trucking is urged to use State Route 113 (SR 113) to I-80. Expect delays and extended travel times.
Crews will remove and replace multiple bridge joints along I-5 at the Yolo Bypass north of the Sacramento River and Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
The contractor will shift operations from northbound and southbound directions.
This construction work will require the bridge to be closed one direction at a time and is necessary for workersโ and motoristsโ safety. Caltrans urges motorists to pay close attention to advance warnings and detour signs
The northbound I-5 closure should not delay the public from making scheduled departures. The southbound closure is expected to affect motorists traveling towards the airport. Motorists are urged to plan their route in advance and allow enough time to reach SMF for flight departures.
SCHEDULED I-5 OVERNIGHT CLOSURES:
Southbound I-5 closures from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., through October 30
