The Washington State Department of Transportation reports that from 10:00 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 4:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, northbound I-5 north of the Nisqually River Bridges at milepost 115.4 will be under construction. Travel lanes will be narrower than usual, with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph. From 11:00 p.m. Friday to the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22 and 11:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23 to the early morning hours of Monday, June 24, northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane so crews can install and remove traffic control.

WSDOT expects significant traffic backups, especially Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Similar northbound I-5 lane closures during the previous weekend produced backups that reached Olympia.

Travelers can help reduce backups and delays by:

  • Allowing plenty of extra time to travel through the work zone.
  • Travel before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m.

This work is weather-dependent work.
