Lane Closures, Detours for I-5 Construction in Los Angeles Metro Area

The California Department of Transportation reports the following Interstate 5 construction activities in the Los Angeles Metro are this week:

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

  • I-5 between SR-134 and Magnolia Boulevard: Crews are installing joint seals and the irrigation system, landscaping at ramps, and installing traffic loop detectors on northbound and southbound I-5. Some of this work occurs at night.
  • Southbound I-5 at Verdugo Avenue: Crews are replacing approach slabs (concrete pavement) at the Verdugo Avenue bridge on Southbound I-5. This work occurs at night.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

  • I-5 at Burbank Boulevard: Crews are excavating, constructing retaining walls and completing removal of the Burbank Boulevard bridge which was demolished in April. Some of this work occurs at night.
  • During the week of May 18, pile driving is scheduled to start for the foundation of the new I-5 Burbank Boulevard Bridge. Noise and vibration are expected during this operation. Pile driving will occur between approximately 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, for about three to four weeks, ending in June. No pile driving is scheduled on weekends or Memorial Day, May 25. The schedule is subject to change.
  • I-5 between Burbank Boulevard and Cohasset Street: Crews are constructing the median barrier.

Closures & Detours

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

  • Intermittent Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures: Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., at times reducing I-5 to one or two lanes in either direction.
  • Alameda Avenue, Sonora Avenue, Western Avenue and South Flower Street Lane Closures: Intermittent daytime and nighttime street, ramp and lane closures on Alameda Avenue, Sonora Avenue, Western Avenue and South Flower Street. Detours are posted.
  • Verdugo Avenue Closures: Verdugo Avenue is blocked at I-5 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays due to construction at the I-5 bridge. Dates and times are subject to change.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

  • Long-term Closure of Burbank Boulevard: At the I-5 bridge, Burbank Boulevard is closed to through traffic in both directions between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street until approximately mid-2021. Detours are posted.
  • Long-term I-5 Ramp Closures at Burbank Boulevard: Long-term or permanent ramp closures are in effect at some of the I-5 on-and-off ramps at Burbank Boulevard. Detours are posted.
  • Only the following ramps at Burbank Boulevard are OPEN:
    • The Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Eastbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go east on Burbank Boulevard to San Fernando Boulevard. Due to construction, this ramp is subject to intermittent closures and a limited number of 55-hour closures. A detour is provided.
    • The Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Westbound Burbank Boulevard — Vehicles exiting I-5 must turn right and go west on Burbank Boulevard to the intersection at Victory Boulevard. This ramp may be closed as times due to construction. A detour is provided.
  • Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures: Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., at times reducing I-5 to one or two lanes in either direction.
  • On- and Off-Ramp Closures and Lane Closures: Intermittent on- and off-ramp closures and lane closures at Buena Vista Street, Empire Avenue, San Fernando Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detours are posted.
