The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that the southbound span of the Interstate Bridge (I-5) will see lane closures on two upcoming nights next week while the bridge undergoes its biennial inspection as required by law.

Here is the closure schedule.

  • From 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, the right and center lanes of the southbound span will be closed. The Washington Street and SR 14 on-ramps to the bridge in Vancouver will be closed as well. The sidewalk on the southbound span will be closed on this night as well.
  • From 10:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23 to 5:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, the left and center lanes of the southbound span will be closed. The sidewalk on the southbound span will remain open during this closure.

On both nights, one lane will remain open at all times although traffic may be slowed.

During the inspections, crews will be checking for degradation, cracks and anything that would compromise the safety of the span.

The Interstate Bridge is jointly owned by Oregon and Washington and is maintained and operated by ODOT. The northbound span opened in 1917 and the southbound span in 1958.
