Expect Long Delays for Construction on I-5 in California This Holiday Weekend

The California Department of Transportation reports the following construction activities on Interstate 5 over the fourth of July holiday weekend:

  • Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Interstate 5 in Lakehead in order to work on the approaches to the Antler’s Bridge. Motorists may encounter long delays on 4th of July weekend. Peak travel times in the northbound direction are Friday, July 1,2016 from 10:00 a.m-11:00 p.m. and Saturday July 2, 2016 from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. In the southbound direction, look for the heaviest traffic on Monday, July 4, 2016 between 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Please try and plan your travel to your holiday destination around these times to avoid long backups.
  • Construction is taking place on Interstate 5 from just north of Mt. Shasta to Central Weed. During the first phase, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Truck Village to Central Weed. Ramp closures, with detours, will take place intermittently during this first phase. 30 minute delays are possible during peak travel times. The entire project is expected to be completed by October 2017.
  • Grinding and paving on several on/off ramps on Interstate 5 in Red Bluff will begin May 8, 2016. Work will be done on the Central Red bluff Interchange, the Diamond Avenue and South Main Street ramps. All closures are expected to occur at night. The project is expected to be completed by the middle of June.
