Everett Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-5 Travelers
Time your drive to avoid the Boeing shift changes: The massive Boeing plant causes major backups around 6-7am, 2-3pm, and 10-11pm when shifts change. Mid-morning or early afternoon are your best bets.
Stay in the right lanes through the city: The left lanes often back up worse due to merging traffic from Highway 2 and local exits. Counterintuitively, the right lanes often flow better through downtown Everett.
The "Everett Curves" are an accident hotspot: Just north of downtown where I-5 curves sharply - slow down even if traffic seems clear. Frequent accidents here cause sudden stops, and the curves hide brake lights until it's almost too late.
Gas up before or after, not in Everett: Prices at the Everett exits tend to be higher. Fill up in Marysville (north) or Lynnwood (south) for better rates.
