The California Department of Transportation has announced a ribbon-cutting event for the new I-5 Truck Lane and Freeway Widening Project, SR-14 to Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue. The event will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Caltrans North Region Survey Field Office, 25111 The Old Road, Newhall, CA 91321.
This $72 million project has widened the freeway and bridges to add mixed flow lanes in both directions and to extend the southbound I-5 truck lane. The lanes have been added by paving the median area and outside shoulder and shifting the mixed-flow lanes inward. The southbound improvements extend from Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue to SR-14 (3.7 miles), while the northbound improvements extend from SR-14 to Gavin Canyon (1.4 miles).
The project began in May 2012. The contractor is Flatiron West.
