Washington I-5 Reduced to Single Lane For Access Improvements

The Washington Department of Transportation has announced I-5 access improvements Madigan. Crews will build double left-turn lanes from southbound I-5 to Berkeley Street and an additional lane across the Berkeley Street overpass (Freedom Bridge).

Both directions of I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at Berkeley Street during the overnight hours of Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15. Lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4 a.m. while all southbound lanes of I-5 will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.

A full overnight closure of I-5 at Berkeley Street will begin at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16. During the closure, crews will reduce each direction of I-5 to one lane and redirect that one lane through interchanges at Berkeley Street. All lanes of I-5 will reopen by 4 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17. This work is weather sensitive and could be rescheduled.

Semi-trucks coming from either direction of I-5 are prohibited from turning left onto the Berkeley Street overpass. Semi-trucks will need to use alternate routes. All drivers can expect shoulder closures.
