Washington State Department of Transportation announced the following lane closures on two I-5 projects; M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV and Portland Avenue to Port of Tacoma Road – Northbound HOV

Description: These two projects lay the foundation for new HOV lanes on I-5 in Tacoma and northbound into Fife.

Location: Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome between M St. to Portland Ave. from milepost 132.8 to 135.2, and northbound I-5 between East Portland Avenue and Port of Tacoma Road.

Details: On Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 29-30, crews will close two lanes of northbound Interstate 5 between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. approaching the Puyallup River Bridge. An hour earlier at 10 p.m, they will also close the two following ramps until 4 a.m. each following morning:

– Northbound I-5 to northbound SR 167
– Bay Street to northbound SR 167

On Wednesday night, motorists can also expect up to three lanes of southbound I-5 to close near the Puyallup River Bridge between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. In addition, the following three ramps will close:

– Southbound SR 167 to southbound I-5
– Southbound I-5 to South 27th Street/Bay Street
– South 27th Street/Portland Avenue to southbound I-5

Detours will be provided for all ramp closures.
